| | JPES is committed to fulfil Wawasan Brunei 2035's goals of having a progressive and sustainable economic growth through having sound and comprehensive economic development blueprints, justified with quality statistics and research, and with the use of innovative implementing mechanism. |
| | In meeting the aspiration, JPES is dedicated to accomplish the following core functions: |
| | 1. | Prepare economic development blueprints, namely Wawasan Brunei 2035, the Outline of Strategies and Policies for Development (OSPD) and the NDP; |
| | 2. | Provide innovative implementation solutions to achieve economic development blueprints' objectives including the provision of a more conducive business environment;
|
| | 3. | Evaluate NDP project proposals submitted by the ministries and agencies, and ensure that the proposals are aligned to the Long Term Development Plan (LTDP) and consider alternative funding options for the implementation of NDP projects such as through PPP; |
| | 4. | Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of all NDP projects and allocate and monitor the utilization of NDP funds; |
| | 5. | Monitor continuously national microeconomic performance backed by quality statistical information to provide macroeconomic performance and progress reports; |
| | 6. | Prepare qualitative and quantitative policy research papers and briefs and provide policy advice and recommendations and macroeconomic projections, supported by the applications of sound forecasting techniques and analytical tools, as inputs for planning needs of public organisations;

| | 7. | Produce and disseminate quality, comprehensive, timely, accurate and accessible statistics consistent with international standards and best practices to support planning, implementation and monitoring of various activities in every aspects of the community and the nation in the context of national development;
|
| | 8. | Serve as the authority on national socio-economic statistics by coordinating the National Statistical System in relation to the collection, compilation and dissemination of statistics by governments agencies; |
| | 9. | Coordinate, monitor and manage National Human Resource Development (HRD) Fund to ensure its implementations are in line with the NDP;
|
| | 10. | Plan, coordinate and manage National HRD matters by developing National HRD Policy and Plan and formulate plan of action through comprehensive analysis of the Labour Market Information in cooperation with other stakeholders to appropriately address National HRD matters; |
| | 11. | Protect consumers against unfair business practices by ensuring that business practices are conducted in a healthy and fair manner through the enforcement of laws and regulations related to consumer affairs; facilitation and monitoring of business practice enhance consumer welfare; |
| | 12. | Serve as Secretariat to the following:
Executive Committee of RKN10; Working Committee of RKN10; National Statistics Committee (NSC); Brunei Research Council (BRC); JawatankuasaKhasPenswastaan (JKP); Jawatankuasa Kebangsaan Cadangan Projek Jambatan Temburong; Jawatankuasa Pandu Skim Biasiswa Pendidikan Teknikal dan Vokasional di Insititusi Pengajian Swasta Dalam Negeri (BPTV) dan Skim Pembangunan Keupayaan Sumber Tenaga di Sektor Swasta (PSTS) di bawah Dana Sumber Manusia Jawatankuasa Pandu Skim-Skim Latihan dibawah Dana Sumber Manusia Jawatankuasa Kerja Khas Menangani Isu-Isu Pengangguran National HRD Policy Council; National HRD Working Committee: and Council for Long-term Development Plan (April 2017 - March 2027). |
